About the Foundation

Formation

In 1991, the city of Tuscaloosa purchased the Jemison Mansion and immediately deeded property to the newly formed Jemison-Van de Graaff Foundation. The Foundation was formed for the express purpose of restoring and preserving the mansion through the support of grants, fundraising, and generous donations. Throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, the Foundation completed work on the mansion in several phases of extreme renovation and rebuilding. These phases focused on restoring the mansion to its original 1862 beauty.
